Switching tactics when you feel stuck is the right choice!

I was making a video which I hope will be sorted and published soon, but I was feeling stuck. I couldn't edit it properly and I didn't know what to do.

At the time of recording I had decided to try something different with a new camera angle and set up and was happy during the recordings etc but when it came to to edit I had no clear direction with it. I felt some of the script was not what I was thinking about and it just felt all round wrong. I couldn't put my finger on why though. What was wrong? If nothing then why am I stuck?

I was just sitting messing about with the edit and not getting anywhere so I decided to park the project. For a while. I wanted to get something uploaded though and the next day an idea popped into my head from nowhere! I have used some of my pre-edited footage of the White Party on MSC Cruises. It is a standard sort of thing that occurs on many if not all of the ships in the fleet and I just popped some YouTube approved music underneath it and text over the top with standard questions I have seen about it and actually had myself. In under 2 hours, I had a video. It could have been a bit quicker but I was fussing about music and got distracted with more music for other things.

I posted the new video and immediately felt better. Putting something online that you have worked on is putting a part of yourself out there. It is nerve wracking because the possibility of being "rejected" can take a toll. But for me posting videos is really exciting. I have gone through the feelings of being rejected, but I now upload for me, for fun and I love it if my work gets views. My videos are doing well in my opinion (which is the only one that counts at the end of the day!)

I have come to find that Editing and Recording the videos are two very different things. You can plan and write a script for a video, no matter how simple the video wanted to be, it can  turn out wrong when it comes time for the edit. I have also learned that if you are not happy, then it is ok to park it for a while and work on something else. You can get inspiration for something else while not stressing over the thing you've been stuck with. Now I have motivation for a re-shoot on the original video, thought of ways to make it easier to edit when the re-shoot is done and to just remind myself that it is ok not to get everything right first time. There is no way the professionals get it right on the first go round, so no need to stress over it. Just learn from it and move forward.

So I will. I will move forward to the next video and take it easier on myself in future. Also I have learned not to spin my wheels over something that isn't working. Try to make it work, but if it isn't and you know deep down it won't then just accept this and move on. Keep moving forward and you will succeed!
