Not choosing is still a choice - Sartre
How do we make decisions? Find out what is needed, make a list of options, weigh up pros and cons. Then just make it, go with the best option.
I, like many others, find this a very hard process. We all make many decisions in a day. Some decisions are easy, what time to get up (although at my age my bladder answers that for me usually), what to wear, what to have for breakfast and so on. Some decisions are made for me and I have no choice but to go with the flow or do as I am told / asked. I do find comfort in being given a task to do, I like to do my work well and I am by nature a people pleaser. And then there are times when I have time to plan and have many options for the same outcome.
Looking for a holiday is usually one of the hardest for me. All of the world as a possibility, even narrowed down to a particular region or country, still fills me with apprehension. Will it be the right place? Have I thought about flight time? Transfer times? Entertainment for not just the adults but a child too? Then worries about things I will not be able to control, the weather, food, other guests. Its ridiculous at times, I know this. Logic doesn't seem to abate it. Always doubting, always questioning.
But not making a choice, is in itself a choice. Something might not be right. There is usually a reason why you are stopping yourself. Listen to it.
My mother told me once, if you need to make a decision between two things then flip a coin. Regardless of the outcome, you will know the answer. If you like outcome of heads Vs tails then that is your choice. If you are not happy then go with the other one!
I try to keep this in mind whenever I have a choice to make. Good luck with your decision making.
Until next time
