40 Before 40 Mid September Update!

I am 2 weeks in to 40 Before 40 and I have managed to knock two items off my list, I am making progress with a few more and also no-where with many others. Lets dive in.

Lets start with one of the items on this list which is now ticked off. I went to see Ghost The Musical at the Pavilion in Bournemouth. I had no idea what to expect. I have seen the film many times, although not recently. But of course there is only one song associated with Ghost and that is "Who you gonna call Ghostbusters!" ........Um no, that's not right is it? Of course not its Unchained Melody, which I am happy to report does feature in this show a couple of times which is wonderful to see. Before I started 40 Before 40 officially I had been to see Sister Act the musical but there is no music from the film in the show at all which I was very surprised about. Anyway, back to the show. It was amazing. The staging, choreography, singing standard and the original songs themselves were all fabulous. Definitly recommend seeing it if you get the chance. So this is number 18 crossed off the list.


To move JustPickOneUK forward a bit in the realm of Social Media (For Number 10 - Set up social media accounts) I have made progress on getting an Instagram account up and running. That was a bit of a hassle as initially the website wouldn't work at all. Then trying to set up a Facebook account and work it that way, Facebook thought I was a bot and shut me down completely. So back to the website again but this time through my phone with the WiFi turned off and it worked. So I am on Instagram. Here is my username https://www.instagram.com/justpickoneuk/.  I've never been one for Twitter so I don't think I'll set up an account there. So I have a TikTok account, Instagram account, a blog and YouTube channel. I think that's enough. So, Number 10 is officially ticked off! 

Moving on to the working ons. Number 4 is Declutter the house. Well I have made some progress. I have cleared out my wardrobe of anything I no longer wear, sold some of those items as well which is great. I have gotten rid of a pile of junk just waiting to go to the dump (which had been there for about a year). I've cleared out a section of the kitchen which was a collection of items we started to gather to take to charity shops etc. All gone and I can now get into the cupboard they were blocking WOOHOO! Today I decided to tackle my sewing desk. I need a space I can do work on YouTube, the admin side of things, Instagram uploads and the like which I would like to be in a social space within the house and not tucked away.  Well I began sewing in the first lockdown in 2020. I do love to sew but it does take up a lot of room. I would buy new fabrics and hold on to some old ones in that "Just In Case" mindset. But I haven't used any of that stuff in over a year so now it had to go. 



Next up is letting go of anything new that I will not likely use. Anything that is new and I won't use or in good condition and of a resaonable size I will be selling. I need the money to be able to build a pot to be able to do the big things I want to do. Unfortunately travelling isn't cheap to do any more and some of my 40 Before 40 list is expensive and I need all the help I can get. This is still a work in progress but I am not in a massive hurry. One declutter at a time. 

I am working on Number 26 which is to do something wild with my hair. I desperately need a haircut first, which I have booked in for next week! It desparately needs it and I will be uploading before and after photos, don't worry about that. Nothing drastic this time, but it will prep my hair for accepting colour in the weeks to come. I am not sure what colour yet, perhaps purple, not too outlandish but definitely a departure from the norm for me. So watch this space. 

Another item which will be checked off the list is Number 14 Camping solo again. I will be able to check this one off the list at the end of the week! I will be camping again this week and it is a solo camp. I have an event to attend and I am combining it with the camp which I am excited about. I am not happy with the autumnal weather which has shown up over the last few days. I am certain it will be ok, I just need to add a hot water bottle to my camp list and all will be well. 

Now I have 2 more work in progress items which unfortunately, I have little control over. Number 30 and Number 31 are similar in that they involve TV and Movies. I have been a TV fan since I could see one. I love visual media, which is probably why I have taken the decision to set up a youtube channel and be part of it. I also love drama and was in all school productions when I was younger and so when I was putting my list together I thought, hey, I could do that. I could be someone in the background walking past, I can hold a drink in a pub and talk drivel while the main action goes on in front of me. 

So for Number 30 - Be a TV or Movie Extra, I have applied to the Casting Collective to be an extra. The application form is very long. You have to go into great detail about yourself and as it is for paid work, you have to give over every piece of identifying information about yourself, submit photos and declare you have the right to work. But its been accepted now and so I am awaiting further information about any possible callouts eeek. The account is held with them for 12 months and there is no guaratee of work at all. But you never know. 





Number 31 Be in the audience for a TV show, I have applied to the Applause Store and put in for a couple of shows filming in October. This is in London and you only get about 24 hours notice of being accepted to be in the audience. They also oversubscribe the show in case people don't show up so again there is no guaratee of getting in. But as the shows I'm looking into are being filmed on a Monday, fingers crossed not as many people will be available at 24 hours notice.

Well here is a challenge!  My husband asked me what I'd like to do for my 40th which is coming in 10 months. I said I'm not sure. There's lots of things I'd like to do really. I'd love to travel, eat nice things, see family, be productive at home, be alone, so quite a mixture really. Then it came to me while watching another YouTuber (Paul Messner) talk about the impact of doing something different. I'd like to do 40 things before I turn 40. These could be small and take a day to do. They could be big and take a week to do. Some things will take time, money and planning. They can be huge and take all 10 months. Campsite TV - What is it and how do I get in on the action?

When going tenting like we do, one of our favourite pastimes is Campsite TV. This doesn't mean getting out an aerial and looking for some signal while shouting "left, a bit right a bit!". I mean the comings and goings of other people on the campsite. The caravans, campervans, the tents, the site staff all going about their business without a care in the world. In my view, the best campsite TV occurs when you've been pitched for a couple of days and know the lay of the land so you can sit and judge others, (only in a kindly fashion), on where they believe the best spot is for them. It is particularly funny if the wind is blowing a bit hard or if this is a new or borrowed tent and they have no idea how to pitch it. Then you get to watch them pitching their tent / place the caravan and see how it was all jammed into their cars, wonder at the amount or lack of things other people have. 3 Peaks in 3 Weeks - Volume 1

This summer holidays we decided to go on a road trip. Not just any road trip but a camp around the UK. 3 nights here, 4 nights there, maybe a hotel overnight as a pit stop and tour the sights. This is a long tale and so I will need to break it up into bits. During this holiday we realized that it might be possible to see all three of the highest peaks in the UK. Mount Snowden in Wales, Scafell Pike in England and Ben Nevis in Scotland. Would we manage it by the end? Do you have to climb the 3 peaks to still enjoy them?
