The internet is a weird place

Image
As the title says the internet is indeed a very weird place. Why we take pleasure from seeing people hurting themselves, cats leaping from being scared and doing dance routines by famous singers.  Having been a YouTuber for less than a year, I definitely don't understand it yet and I absolutely do not understand Instagram or the ways of tiktok. I attended an Eagle Labs event on social media and how to optimise their use for your business.  Both of the experts there were confident in their opinions on how to optimise your strategy for numerous different platforms. However, both of them also agreed that nothing they said was any guarantee of success and they could easily identify someone who was doing everything they can to not follow the rule book and being successful anyway.  I decided to test this and filmed a small snail who had got into the house and was slithering up the curtain. I filmed him, popped a silly piece of music and a sparkly background on the video a...

Success during failure.

If you're in a situation where it feels like everything is failing, don't worry, it isn't. The fact is things just aren't going your way with that thing. I'm currently sat in my tent at 10:45pm talking into my phone so I don't have to type in the dark. I've forgotten to pack a bunch of things that you usually need for camping for example; a head torch, because it gets dark especially in the New Forest and I have to make it across the lumpy bumpy ground to get to the toilet. It is so much easier when you can see where you're going.  When I was pitching my tent this afternoon I needed to move one of the pegs because it wasn't quite in the right place. No big deal. It happens. Just pull it out and try again. But nope. The tree root I had unwittingly smashed my giant peg into had other ideas. It was going to hold on to my peg for dear life to the point where I had to wrestle with it for an hour..... Yes one whole hour of digging into the ground with ano...

40 Before 40 Mid September Update!

Image
I am 2 weeks in to 40 Before 40 and I have managed to knock two items off my list, I am making progress with a few more and also no-where with many others. Lets dive in. Lets start with one of the items on this list which is now ticked off. I went to see Ghost The Musical at the Pavilion in Bournemouth. I had no idea what to expect. I have seen the film many times, although not recently. But of course there is only one song associated with Ghost and that is "Who you gonna call Ghostbusters!" ........Um no, that's not right is it? Of course not its Unchained Melody, which I am happy to report does feature in this show a couple of times which is wonderful to see. Before I started 40 Before 40 officially I had been to see Sister Act the musical but there is no music from the film in the show at all which I was very surprised about. Anyway, back to the show. It was amazing. The staging, choreography, singing standard and the original songs themselves were all fabulous. Defini...

3 Peaks in 3 Weeks - Volume 6 - Cambridge, Ely and time to head home

Image
We've made it to Cambridge. The Camping and Caravan Club Cambridge site just to the south of the city. It is a nice site, a bit dull as it is just an open field with a toilet block on one side and a few taps dotted around. It did have a small play area and Wi-Fi so my son was happy. He actually managed to make a group of friends to run around, make silly games and pick berries with. Once set up under a cluster of trees we set our sites on looking for something to do around Cambridge. We knew we wanted to visit the Computing Museum but we didn't know much else about the city other than the famous University.   We decided to go to the museum on one day, then a hop on hop off bus would give us a good overview of the city without having to walk too much.  The museum was amazing. They have computers from all of the decades that had them. PCs, laptops, gaming consoles, phones, tablets, TVs and even robots. It is a feast but not just for the eyes. Most of the items you can actu...

3 Peaks in 3 Weeks - Volume 5 Heading Back South

We decided to have a well deserved break. Its been a couple of weeks of travel, thinking about travel, setting up camps, explore the area, packing down camps, moving on and rinse repeat. It is a wonderful thing to do and I am loving it but we need a breather from it. So today is the day, reading books, making tea and doing not a lot. Well the weather has certainly decided that this is our only choice. It is raining. Raining HARD! The British weather has decided that we hadn't seen enough rain for the last 2 weeks (and to be fair we'd had glorious weather) and so it decided that it would give us all the rain we had missed in one day!  Any Friends fans out there will remember Joey feeling sad about living on his own and feeling home sick and looking through the glass with water in. Well that was our view for a full day. We actually loved it. We made up a new system for blocking more rain from getting into the porch area on our tent using a tarpaulin, a poncho and some bungee co...

40 before 40! The Full List

Image
Well here is a challenge!  My husband asked me what I'd like to do for my 40th which is coming in 10 months. I said I'm not sure. There's lots of things I'd like to do really. I'd love to travel, eat nice things, see family, be productive at home, be alone, so quite a mixture really. Then it came to me while watching another YouTuber (Paul Messner) talk about the impact of doing something different. I'd like to do 40 things before I turn 40. These could be small and take a day to do. They could be big and take a week to do. Some things will take time, money and planning. They can be huge and take all 10 months. But all of them should be an experience, achieve a goal and / or improve my life in some way.  Doing the adventure of the UK road trip has really inspired me that things like that are possible. It is possible to do things that are different to the norm. I can live in a better way than before. At the moment I have no job to go to. No restriction in those t...
